What Happens When Doubt Creeps In?
Have you ever found yourself wondering if you’re moving in the right direction?
Maybe you’ve been working hard, doing all the things you’re supposed to do, and yet something still feels off. You question your progress. You wonder if you’re making a difference. You start doubting yourself and the path you’re on.
I’ve been feeling that way lately.
There have been days when I’ve felt discouraged. Days when I’ve questioned my purpose and wondered if I’m making the impact I hope to make.
If you’ve ever felt that way, you’re not alone.
Sometimes life feels heavy. Sometimes we show up every day and still wonder if we’re getting anywhere. We compare ourselves to others. We focus on what’s not working instead of what is. Before long, discouragement starts to take root.
When that happens, I’ve learned something important:
I don’t need a brand-new plan.
I need to go back to the basics.
The Basics Are What Carry Us Through
When life feels uncertain, it’s easy to believe the answer is something bigger.
A new program.
A new strategy.
A new goal.
But maybe you’ve noticed this too: the things that help the most are often the simple habits you’ve known all along.
The basics.
The habits that support your body, calm your mind, and help you reconnect with yourself.
When life feels overwhelming, we often abandon the very things that make us feel better. We stop doing the habits that were helping because we become focused on finding a bigger solution.
But sometimes the answer isn’t doing more.
Returning to Self-Care
When doubt starts creeping in, one of the first things I focus on is self-care.
Not the fancy kind.
The everyday kind.
The kind that reminds us we matter too.
Maybe for you, that looks like taking a few quiet minutes before the rest of the house wakes up. Maybe it’s sitting outside with a cup of coffee. Maybe it’s reading a book, taking a bath, or simply permitting yourself to rest.
For me, self-care often means slowing down and reconnecting with what I need in that moment.
I’ve learned that self-care isn’t selfish.
It’s how we refill our cup when life has drained it.
And if you’ve been running on empty lately, maybe your first step isn’t doing more.
Maybe it’s caring for yourself a little better.
Strengthening Your Mindset
Your mindset makes the difference here.
When doubt shows up, it’s important to pay attention to the stories you’re telling yourself.
Are you focusing on what isn’t working?
Are you forgetting how far you’ve come?
Are you expecting perfection instead of progress?
I’ve had to ask myself those same questions.
Mindset doesn’t change our circumstances overnight, but it changes how we move through them.
Some days, the most powerful thing you can do is remind yourself that progress is still progress, even when it’s slow.
One step.
One choice.
One day at a time.
Putting One Foot in Front of the Other
Walking may not solve every problem, but it helps us clear our minds and reconnect with ourselves.
For me, walking has become one of my greatest forms of self-care.
When my thoughts feel cluttered, walking helps me think.
When stress starts building, walking helps me reset.
When I feel discouraged, walking reminds me that progress happens one step at a time.
Maybe you’ve experienced that feeling too.
You start your walk carrying the weight of the day, and somewhere along the path, things begin to feel lighter.
Some of my best ideas have come while walking.
Some of my greatest peace has come while walking.
And many days, I’ve found my center again while walking.
Fueling My Body
When we’re feeling discouraged, healthy habits are often the first things to disappear.
We skip the walk.
We reach for convenience foods.
We stop paying attention to the things that help us feel our best.
How we fuel our bodies affects how we feel mentally, emotionally, and physically.
That’s why I always return to the basics.
For me, that means practicing intermittent fasting, drinking my water, eating more protein, and making healthier choices most of the time.
Not perfectly.
Just consistently.
I’ve learned that taking care of my body gives me the energy to keep showing up, even on the difficult days.
Why I Keep Sharing My Story
There are days when I wonder if anyone is listening.
Days when I question whether my story matters.
Then I remember why I started.
I share because I know what it feels like to struggle.
I know what it feels like to feel stuck.
I know what it feels like to wonder if change is possible.
And if something I’ve learned can help another woman take one small step toward better health, more confidence, or renewed hope, then it’s worth it.
Sometimes our purpose isn’t found in having all the answers.
Sometimes it’s found in simply showing up, sharing the journey, and encouraging someone else to keep going.
Final Thoughts
If you’ve been feeling uncertain lately, you’re not alone.
Life has a way of making us question ourselves from time to time.
When that happens, don’t underestimate the power of going back to the basics.
Take care of yourself.
Protect your mindset.
Move your body.
Nourish yourself well.
And remember—progress isn’t always measured by how fast you’re moving.
Sometimes it’s measured by the fact that you didn’t give up.
I’ve had to remind myself of that lately.
Maybe you need the reminder too.
Keep taking the next small step.
One choice.
One walk.
One healthy habit.
One day at a time.
Small habits. Small steps. Big changes. 💛
